"Okay everyone," she started, "and-a-one, and-a-two, and"
As Fluttershy conducted, the birds in the tree began to sing. The eloquence and rich harmony was perfect, with the exception of one aspect.
Fluttershy directed the group to stop for a moment, so she could have a word with one of the blue jays, who was still lost in his own little world, still singing the tune as best he could. He had been trying really hard, really, but he just wasn't getting it down.
Fluttershy flew over next to him, startling him a little.
"Um, excuse me, sir? Um, I don't mean to be rude or hurt your feelings or anything but, your rhythm is just a teeny tiny bit off."
He respectfully accepted her criticism, recognizing what he needed to change. He nodded in agreement, signaling he was ready to try again.
Fluttershy gracefully glided back down in front of the group, and raised her hooves, ready to start the tune over.
But, just as she was about to lead the procession in another round of singing, she noticed a faint sound in the distance.
It was the sound of crying. Somepony was in the meadow with her, and her birds, and that certain somepony was crying, quite profusely.
"Oh, oh no. That's not good. Um will you all wait here for a moment, please?"
Fluttershy made her way to the source of the sobbing.
It wasn't fair.
How could Twilight Sparkle not understand what she was telling her? A new pony with such a talent with magic finally comes to Ponyville, and not even that brilliant-minded pony could help her.
"It's-it's not fair," she muttered in between sobs, "How could she not get it?"
Rainbow Dash was probably just going to have to stay the way she was forever.
"It's not fair! Why do I have to be born this way, when everypony else is just fine?"
A faint voice butted in.
"Um excuse me, Rainbow Dash? I mean, I don't want to bother you or anything . but are you okay?"
"I'm fine," she lied, "Just go bother somepony else, okay?"
Fluttershy could see Dash was being defensive. She only wanted to help.
"Sorry, Rainbow Dash, but you don't look okay. Don't you think talking about whatever it is that has you down will make you feel better?"
Dash's frustration continued to mount.
"I said I'm FINE!"
Fluttershy cringed, shutting her eyes, and turning her head.
" Rainbow Dash, please. I know you're upset and I only want to help you."
That was it. First, she finally gets up the courage to talk to Twilight about her feelings, only to be met with complete ignorance, and now, this pony had to see her in this state, sobbing like a little filly in the meadow.
Sobbing like a little . girl.
"UGH! I said leave me alone!"
Fluttershy whimpered as Dash screamed at her.
"I said I'm fine, and I just want to be alone, so just BUZZ OFF!"
Rainbow couldn't take this anymore. She quickly went from her sitting position to a crouched one, ready to blast off into the clouds.
"Can't anypony get any privacy around here?"
Fluttershy attempted to apologize, "I'm sorry, Dash. I didn't mean to "
Rainbow looked Fluttershy in the eye. "Save it."
And with that, Rainbow Dash launched up into the air with as much force as she could muster, accidentally knocking Fluttershy down, who was standing just a bit too close.
Now it was Fluttershy who was crying.
As she lay there, now burdened with both physical pain, and the pain of knowing one of her dear friends was upset, all she could do was think to herself, "What could be wrong with Dash ?"
